Structural insight into the assembly and D antigenicity of polio type 1 stabilized virus-like particles

Researchers engineered a thermally stabilized poliovirus type 1 virus-like particle and solved its atomic structure by cryo-EM. The sVLP is produced at high yield in Pichia pastoris, preserves native D-antigenicity, elicits potent neutralizing antibodies in mice, and reveals seven cooperative stabilizing mutations and a D-antigen epitope bound by monoclonal antibody 3G10.
