Streptomyces tyrfis sp. nov., an actinobacterium isolated from Thai peat swamp forest soil and its promising secondary metabolites

A new Streptomyces species, Streptomyces tyrfis sp. nov., was isolated from Thai peat swamp soil. Chemical analysis identified ten secondary metabolites, several showing antibacterial activity and inhibition of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and some showing cytotoxicity against lung and breast cancer cell lines.

Why it mattersIdentified compounds inhibit Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MIC 3.13–25 μg/mL), offering new antibiotic lead chemistry for preclinical programs.
