MyFitnessPal has acquired Cal AI, the viral calorie app built by teens

MyFitnessPal has acquired Cal AI, the photo-based calorie-counting app built by two teenagers that reached over 15 million downloads and roughly $30 million in annual revenue. The seven-person Cal AI team, including co-founders Zach Yadegari and Henry Langmack, was retained and the app will remain independent while being integrated with MyFitnessPal’s 20 million-item nutrition database. MyFitnessPal CEO Mike Fisher said the apps will target different user needs—Cal AI for speed and MFP for accuracy—while financial terms were not disclosed.
