Microsoft has a new plan to prove what’s real and what’s AI online

Microsoft evaluated 60 combinations of provenance tools (watermarks, manifests, cryptographic fingerprints/C2PA) to detect AI-manipulated content and proposed a blueprint for platforms to adopt; it stopped short of committing to company-wide implementation while regulators and researchers weigh these standards alongside laws such as the EU AI Act.
