Menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stromal cell extracellular vesicles stimulate chondrocytes and cartilage extracellular matrix synthesis in vitro

Preclinical study shows menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stromal cell extracellular vesicles (MenSC-EVs) increase collagen II and aggrecan expression, enhance extracellular matrix deposition, and reduce COMP and GAG release in chondrocytes and cartilage explants under inflammatory (IL-1β) and TGF-β3 conditions, with infrared spectroscopy corroborating ECM restoration and suggesting a cell-free cartilage repair approach.
Why it mattersMenSC-EVs lowered COMP and GAG release in IL-1β–stimulated explants; supports cell-free osteoarthritis therapeutic development decisions.
