Genetically modified pig liver keeps man alive until human organ transplant

Surgeons at Xijing Hospital in Xi'an connected a genetically modified pig liver extracorporeally to a 56-year-old man with acute-on-chronic liver failure as a bridge to human transplantation; the ClonOrgan-supplied liver carried six genetic modifications, filtered the patient’s blood for several days without overt rejection, and the patient later received a human liver and is recovering.
Why it mattersXijing Hospital used a six-gene modified pig liver; monitoring immunosuppression dosing and liver-function data is needed for trial safety.
