A longitudinal comparative analysis of serum metabolomic signatures in children with SARS-CoV-2 infection and MIS-C

Prospective cohort analyzed serum metabolites from 92 children with acute SARS-CoV-2, 7 with MIS-C, and 41 controls using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Metabolite patterns varied with age and clinical severity and may yield early markers to predict disease course.
Why it mattersMIS-C and acute COVID-19 showed metabolite changes measured by GC-MS, informing biomarker development for early risk stratification.
